Chapter 41: Breaking and Mending

The room felt smaller somehow, charged with the weight of unspoken words. Moonlight spilled across the floor, pooling around Meenal’s ankles where the anklets gleamed faintly. Rajveer remained kneeling beside her, his presence a tether to the world she had tried to escape.

Meenal’s chest rose and fell erratically, her body trembling against Rajveer’s. The warmth of his presence should have comforted her—but instead, it brought the storm of her guilt and longing crashing in.

“I… I can’t,” she whispered suddenly, pulling back, her hands pressing against his chest as if to hold him at bay. “I… I shouldn’t feel this… I shouldn’t—”

“Shh,” he murmured, keeping his hands gentle, still holding hers. “Don’t fight it. Please… don’t shut me out now.”

Tears spilled down her face as she looked away, ashamed. “I can’t… I’m betraying Didi… I promised her to take care of Arun, not to claim her husband as mine."

Rajveer’s grip tightened just enough to anchor her, his own voice cracking with emotion. “Meenal, listen to me. This isn’t betrayal. Loving me, letting yourself feel… it doesn’t erase Megha. She lives in us—in the memories we honor, in the choices we make with care. But she would never want you to live in fear, in shadows, in silence.”

She shook her head, panic flaring. “But what if I fail you? What if I ruin everything… like before? And and…” Her breath caught in her throat, tears threatening to spill over.

He leaned closer, his forehead pressing lightly to hers. “Then we’ll face it. Together. I’ve failed once… But I’m not afraid to try again. I’m not afraid to be with you, even if it takes a lifetime to make things right. You… you are worth every moment of trying.”

Her breath hitched as his words sank into her, a tide she couldn’t resist. For years, she had built walls around her heart, high and cold as marble—and now, those walls trembled, cracking under the weight of sincerity, hope, and the fierce love in his eyes.

“I…” she began, voice breaking. “I don’t even know if I deserve this… deserve you.”

“You do,” he whispered fiercely, cupping her face in his hands. “You’ve always deserved love. And I… I’ve always deserved to fight for it—with you. Please, don’t push me away. Not now. Not when we’ve found each other again.”

Meenal’s body faltered, tears streaming freely. The ache in her chest, the guilt, the fear—it all collided, unbearable and raw. And then… she let herself fall into him. Fully.

Rajveer held her close, arms wrapping around her trembling frame as if he could shield her from the world. Their foreheads pressed together, breaths mingling, hearts pounding in sync. The anklets chimed softly against the marble floor, a fragile, perfect music for two souls slowly learning to mend.

“I’m… scared,” she whispered into his chest, her voice trembling like a fragile leaf.

“I know,” he murmured, kissing the top of her head. “So am I. But we’ll be scared together. And that’s enough. That’s more than enough. I was a man who was always taught love means weakness, a thakur who never showed vulnerability. But that costs me everything; I lost Megha, but I can't go back to being that man. I need you, and I need this love we share," he confessed, his voice raw with emotion. "I can't lose you too." She looked up at him, tears glistening in her eyes, and nodded silently.

For the first time in what felt like forever, Meenal let herself truly breathe—let herself feel, let herself hope. The grief of the past remained, but it no longer chained her. Rajveer’s steady heartbeat against her ear was a promise that love could survive sorrow, that hearts—even broken ones—could be whole again.

She lifted her face, brushing tears from her cheeks, and found him staring at her with a depth of devotion that stole her breath.

The moonlight pooled around Meenal’s ankles, the anklets chiming softly as their hands stayed entwined. She pressed closer to Rajveer, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest against hers, letting herself breathe for the first time in years.

“I… I want to try,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Rajveer smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Then try with me. Not as a duty… as us.”

They stayed like that, holding each other, neither wanting to let go. Outside, the night was quiet, the courtyard still except for the faint rustle of jasmine petals in the breeze.

A shadow shifted in the corner. Aditya leaned against the wall, his arms crossed, eyes quietly watching. His jaw tightened slightly, a mixture of regret and something else he didn’t quite name. He stayed still, letting them have this moment, though every beat of his heart reminded him of what was once his but now slipped away. The ache in his chest grew as he turned and walked away, disappearing into the darkness without a sound. The moonlight cast a haunting glow on his retreating figure, a silent witness to the love that had slipped through his fingers.

✨ Author’s Note ✨

Okay, HOLD UP. 😱 Did we just witness Meenal finally let those walls crumble? And Rajveer… sir, please, who gave you permission to break hearts and heal them at the same time?! 🔥😭

And let’s not ignore Aditya lurking in the corner like a tragic Bollywood hero who didn’t get the girl. 🥲 Someone give him a cup of chai and a therapist, please.

I swear, writing this chapter had me kicking my feet like I was watching a K-drama, then crying like a 90s soap heroine, and THEN yelling at my own characters. 🙃 They’re all a mess and I love them for it.

So tell me 👇
➡️ Are you Team Rajveer-Meenal 💕, or do you still have a soft spot for Aditya’s broody heart?
➡️ And be honest… did the anklet symbolism hit you right in the feels or was it just me romanticizing jewelry again? 😂✨

Drop your thoughts in the comments—don’t be shy, I live for your chaos. 🥳💌

And if you’re new here… why are you starting at Chapter 41, bestie?? 😏 Go binge from Chapter 1 on Wattpad or catch up on my website. 📖✨

Until the next emotional rollercoaster… buckle up, babes. 🎢💫
