✨ Chapter 80: More Eyes than Doors
The booming voice cracked through the terrace like a temple bell struck too hard.
Rita froze, the blood in her veins turning to something cold and heavy.
Aditya sprang away from her as if scalded, hands snapping back to his sides.
The saris—so bright moments ago—now drifted to the floor like fallen accusations, pooling around them in loud, accusing colors.
Rajveer stood at the mouth of the terrace corridor, arms crossed, expression carved from stone, unmoving, unreadable.
The morning sun lit the terrace, but his shadow stretched long behind him—dark, heavy, swallowing everything it touched.
“Rita,” he said, voice steady—the terrifying steadiness of real anger.
“What exactly were you doing?”
Her throat cinched tight. "T—Thakur Shahab… I slipped. The sarees—”
Aditya lurched forward instantly.
“It was my fault. I startled her. She lost her balance.”
Rajveer’s gaze flickers to his younger brother.
Just one second.
But in that second, Rita saw it:
He didn’t believe him.
Not fully.
Not after the confession.
Not after the herbs.
Not after everything.
His attention shifted to the saris scattered around them.
“Sarees slip,” he said, almost too calmly.
“But servants don’t fall into a Thakur’s arms by accident.”
Fear sliced through Rita, quick and breath-stealing.
“Bhai—” Aditya tried again.
“Enough. And keep your hands to yourself from now on.” Rajveer's voice was cold and final, leaving no room for argument.
“This haveli has more eyes than doors,” he warned, his gaze sweeping the corridors.
"And if Thakur's name is ever tainted by your recklessness, I will neither forgive nor forget." Rajveer's words hung heavy in the air, a warning that Rita and Aditya knew she could not ignore.
"Bhai, I was only trying to help," Aditya pleaded, his voice filled with regret.
Rajveer’s voice snapped like a whip. "You're old enough to marry, I will ask your mother to find a suitable match for you if you cannot control your impulses." he said, his tone cutting.
Silence drowned the terrace.
Aditya didn’t speak. His jaw clenched—the word ‘marriage’ hitting him like a slap.
He couldn’t. Not after Meenal. His heart still lived buried with her memory.
A tiny gasp broke it.
Munni peeked from behind a pillar, clutching her little cloth doll, her eyes wide, frightened, and confused.
Rita gestured frantically for her to hide—but the child stayed frozen.
Rajveer saw. His jaw tightened.
“Rita,” he said, “bring your daughter and come to the main hall.”
Her breath snagged in her throat.
“There is something you must answer for.”
She stumbled a step forward and scooped Munni into her arms, the little girl’s fingers gripping her blouse in silent terror.
“Ji… Thakur Shahab.”
Behind her, Aditya stepped forward, helpless and burning.
“Bhai, she hasn’t done anything wrong—”
“Do. Not. Interfere.”
The coldness in Rajveer’s voice could have frozen the entire courtyard.
Rita bowed her head quickly and rushed down the stairs, clutching Munni close as though she could shield her from fate itself.
Each step echoed with dread.
Each breath tasted of fear.
Each heartbeat thudded like a rope drawing tighter around her neck.
And somewhere behind her, Aditya stood rooted—helpless, furious, and terrified of what his brother might decide.
