That morning, Meenal woke to the soft warmth of sunlight spilling across the room. Rajveer’s arm was draped around her, protective and steady, his chest rising and falling in a rhythm that calmed her restless mind. Arun lay curled against his father’s side, one tiny hand resting on Rajveer’s shirt as though claiming him as his own.

For the first time in years, Meenal’s first thought wasn’t fear—it was peace.

She turned slightly, her gaze falling on Rajveer’s face. In sleep, the hardness was gone. The weight of duty, of battles fought and sacrifices made, melted away. He looked younger, almost boyish. For a fleeting second, she imagined what he might have been like before the world pressed its burdens upon him.
