The next morning, the haveli was unusually quiet. Dawn lay pale across the sky, the dark clouds heavy but unbroken. Inside, the corridors carried only the faint stirrings of a house waking to itself.

Meenal moved through the kitchen, her hands busy, her mind restless.

Rajveer’s words clung to her—I don’t regret it. No matter how she shook her head, they stayed, heavy as stone.

When she stepped into the courtyard, she found Rajveer beneath the old neem tree, Arun clinging to his back as he pushed himself up and down against the earth.

"One more, Baba!" Arun squealed, bouncing on his father’s back.
